RIVER WILDERNESS PARK ENTRY IMPROVEMENTS

Gateway to the San Gabriel Mountains.
Aiming to entice an urbanized San Gabriel Valley public to discover the wild San Gabriel River and Mountains so close to home, the Watershed Conservation Authority recently acquired 73 acres to create the River Wilderness Park. This significant land parcel spans an upper reach of the river at the northern boundary of the City of Azusa.

Withers & Sandgren was selected to bring the vision for the park to reality. The First Phase Entry Improvements is for an 8-acre portion adjacent to the San Gabriel River and Highway 39. Taking advantage of the dramatic location, the proposed park design includes river overlooks and trails, environmental interpretive installations, event spaces, children’s exploratory play area, a terminus for an extension of the San Gabriel River Bicycle Path, and in a future phase, a National Parks-style lodge with a cafe concession.
